SENIOR SYSTEMS ENGINEER (Req 18 135)

Department: Program Management Contract
Location: Patuxent River, MD

Responsibilities: Applies advanced engineering principles to investigate, analyze, plan, design, test or evaluate digital equipment, hardware, RF system concepts, or software development tasking. Applies software engineering experience in, but not limited to, circuit board layout and design, real-time operating systems, software design and implementation, and system design architecture to perform engineering design and feasibility evaluation, component and system design engineering, or installation testing and evaluation of ID, ECMS, ATC equipment, systems and subsystems, and advanced technologies development. Reviews and prepares engineering and technical analysis, reports, change proposals, and other engineering documentation. Uses IEEE ISO/IEC 26702:2007, Systems engineering - Application and management of the systems engineering process; 12207:2008 - IEEE Systems and software engineering - Software life cycle processes and the SEI CMMI for Development, Version 1.3 model for guidance in providing systems and software engineering products and services.

The position is located at a US Navy facility in Southern Maryland in support of Identification, Friend or Foe (IFF) technology and involves direct customer interaction and cross-organization teamwork. The successful candidate must either possess, or can obtain, at minimum, a Secret security clearance.

Education: BS or BA degree from an accredited university in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or another engineering discipline from an accredited school.

Experience: A total of six (6) years performing the foregoing functions.

Specific Skills:

  • System architecture & design;
  • Requirements management, capture & decomposition;
  • System Test procedures including Test Case Development & Formal testing practices;
  • System integration;
  • Engineering Estimation;
  • Project planning; and
  • Earned value management.

In addition to the general skills listed, the ideal candidate will bring experience from the following specific technologies and engineering tools:

  • Digital Communication theory and techniques.
  • Avionics system design, requirements and integration.
  • Avionics identification and navigation systems.
  • Dedicated requirements management tools such as DOORS.
  • SysML and/or UML (SysML preferred).
  • Change Request / Change Management (CR/CM) tracking tools such as IBM ClearQuest.
  • Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools such as Sparx EA, or IBM Rational Rhapsody Designer.

The candidate must have well developed oral communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate system design information to a large spectrum of engineering disciplines. Additionally, the position requires solid writing skills and creativity in problem solving with an ability to act independently as well as an effective part of a team.

Evidence of prior successful leadership experience is a plus.

Other: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
